Pinky Tesfay

Discipline:

Painting, Drawing, Sculpture

Location:

EAST LONDON

ABOUT:

For the past two decades, my artistic practice has centred on abstract painting, exploring themes of my identity, culture and exploring the realms of subconscious landscapes and language. My work is characterised by bold strokes, dynamic compositions, and an emotionally intense palette, using both oil and acrylic paints to create depth and layers that invite sensory engagement. Growing up as an immigrant on a council estate, I seldom saw representation in the mainstream art world, making intersectionality a crucial aspect of my work. Through my art, I aim to challenge and disrupt normative approaches, offering representation and recognition for historically marginalised artists.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
