Sophie-Nicole Dodds

Discipline:

Printmaking, drawing, practitioner, expanded practice, textiles, garments, tailor

Location:

Sheffield and London

ABOUT:

Sophie-Nicole Dodds practice stems from her bespoke tailoring and fashion days, looking at the craft and systems within them. Drawing, sewing and print lead her work through expanded fashion practices. She works from textile archives, museum collections and objects within her own studio 'archive', by focusing on wear, care and everyday domestic moments. In the studio she washes and dyes remnants of cloth and thrown away clothes to give them a new story, using them to understand loss as well as memory. She aims to communicate the importance of slow, repetitive life movements within the domestic space of making and wearing by using technical tailoring and drawing skills.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
