Multidisciplinary Artist

Location:

London, U.K.

ABOUT:

Taryn O'Reilly is a multidisciplinary sculpture and installation artist from the U.S. and currently based out of South East London. Her research is centred around the personification of death within art history and how this has structured the tropes of women & queerness in modern day media. Taryn's practice takes cues from the horror genre, Dutch still lifes, and vintage advertisements to explore these conceptions of queerness, desire, and femininity. Resulting in a body of work that embodies dark humour, the macabre and camp culture taking form through textiles and traditional sculptural techniques.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
