WCCD X HYPHA STUDIOS: Open Call for film and video works

As part of the current exhibition, Unknown Friends in London, we’re hosting a screening as the closing event. The space has been expertly sourced and generously donated by Hypha Studios who offer thousands of creatives around the UK opportunities to show their work.

For our finalé, we’d like to do something comfortable (because we’ve all been working so hard) and we’d like to invite you to join us. We’re hosting an evening of film and video work, showing films from our current exhibitors but... We’re opening this out to you, (new or old) members of WCCD, to submit any video or film worlds you would like to share.

So, what are the themes? We’re looking for work which…

Explores threads of many narratives interwoven from landscapes and materials, observations and people. We will prioritise work which addresses disintegration, reincarnation, and regeneration through time and loss through either the organic or the digital.

The screening will occur on Friday the 19th of May between 7-9 pm. Drinks will be available (for a suggested donation if you can), with soft drinks also on site. In the manner of an outdoor film screening, we’re providing the venue and the ambience (and some cushions). You can sign up for a free ticket here

A panel of currently exhibiting artists will select the works and a showreel will be produced which will be shared beyond the screening event. We will host it on our website as well as on youtube and social media.

So, what do we need from you?

  • Please submit any video work via this form: SUBMIT

  • Ensure that the film file is in .mov or .mp4

  • DEADLINE: 15/05/2023 1pm

FAQs

How will the films be shown?

We have a projection sheet and a projector/mini projector set up which we will use to show the work from behind. We will have speakers for any sound work or films with sound.

Do I have to be a member?

We would prefer to showcase work from working-class creatives but you do not have to be a member. Although, if you would like to join up, you can do so here: BECOME A MEMBER

Does it cost to join WCCD?

Membership is completely free.

Does it cost to submit work or if your work is selected?

No, this is an entirely free open call and there are no hidden costs. We do not believe artists should have to pay to enter open calls or pay to show work.

Do I have to be there?

No, you don’t have to be able to make the screening, although we would love to extend an invitation to anyone who can make it.

Is the space accessible?

The space is on the first floor but there is step-free access to the building and a lift. There is also a green room which can be used in the circumstance that anyone requires a quiet space. The building has accessible toilet facilities. We do not have many chairs, so if you require any particular seating arrangement please contact me at everettzc@hotmail.com and I would be happy to arrange any accommodations.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
